Kaluma Boy, has touched many hearts by sharing his journey of caring for his ailing father. On social media, he shows the struggles, sacrifices, and small wins of looking after a parent alone.
His father suffered a severe stroke in August 2024, which left him in a coma for three months. After being discharged in December, he has remained bedridden, requiring constant medical attention. “It is like he is in a ward at home,” Kaluma explained. “We are in and out of hospital, and the medications are very expensive.”
Despite these challenges, Kaluma has taken on the responsibility of being his father’s caregiver, juggling both emotional and financial burdens. To cover medical expenses, he works on local tea farms, picking tea leaves just to make ends meet.

Through heartfelt videos and posts, Kaluma appealed to Kenyans to support his family during this difficult period. On Sunday, a wave of compassion swept across social media platforms as hundreds of TikTokers and supporters organized a visit to Kaluma Boy’s home in Othaya. A fleet of buses made its way to Nyeri, filled with people carrying donations, encouragement, and prayers for the family.

Leaders Applaud Gen Z Solidarity
The mass show of support did not go unnoticed by public figures. Former Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria described the moment as a symbol of generational change, praising young people for their unity and proactive nature.
“To my fellow Octogenarians,” Kuria remarked, “we have been preparing for an exam in Biology using a Literature Text Book. The solidarity young people are giving to Content Creator Kaluma Boy in Othaya today is symptomatic of the new Republic.”
He went on to acknowledge that Gen Z has created a new kind of community—one that mobilizes quickly, stands together, and does not wait for leadership approval.
Similarly, Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah applauded the turnout, calling it “real community vibes” and criticizing government institutions for neglecting families like Kaluma’s. “Big up to Kenyans who pulled up for Kaluma in Nyeri. That’s true Kenyans for Kenyans,” Omtatah stated.
